Tour Series Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth Tour Series 2013

Team Wallis arrived at Aberystwyth for the second guest appearance in the Tour Series 2013. Junior rider Henry Hunter was in for his second of the series, with senior riders Julian Pearson, Steve Abbott and home town rider Dan Davies coming in. We also had a guest, Ben Simmonds due to Charlie being ill. The team was in for another tough night against the countries best criterium riders.

The most prestigious team series in the UK, the Tour Series attracts a host of the best premier teams for town and city centre racing. Round 05 of the series brought the event to Aberystwyth, as part of the Aber Cycle Fest, organized by local superman Shelley Childs from Cambrian Tyres (Continental). The series was now a battle between Raleigh, UK Youth and Madison-Genesis.

Team Wallis were back after a great showing at Aber in 2012 for another round of the prestigious series’ coveted guest spots, to allow the young riders the experience of racing against the best in front of big crowds.

The race circuit had to be changed on the night due to high seas, caused by very windy conditions. The course was now shorter with more corners, making for an extremely hard race. As expected the race was brutal from the start, with groups developing, and a few crashes. A small group of four with Ed Clancy, eventually winner in, got a gap, and stayed away for the rest of the race. Steve was around the front of the main bunch with Ben, and Henry, battled on in a race which does not really suit his style. If we were in the series we would have been 6th team.

It was a great event, and we were well supported by all the locals, another good weekend for the team!
